![]() Our guide was very patient with her and kept her smiling with a bent fishing rod much of the time. That will be my excuse for the little girl out-fishing me. I did catch the first bass, but it wasn't long til my daughter got the hang of setting the hook harder than she was used to and she kept me busy with the camera. No worries, stuff happens and we werre still the only ones on the boat just as promised. We own a pontoon boat and had booked the bass boat just for a different experience, but the bass boats took some mechanical hits a few days before on the busy Memorial Day weekend. We began our day bass fishing with Captain John who had his pontoon boat ready to go. Also, she's caught perch and trout, but large mouth bass are a different story. We are from Montana and no strangers to the wilds, my daughter being on many big game kills with me and an experienced bobcat and mountain lion houndgirl, but she can't shoot anything much bigger than ground squirrels/prairie dogs until she's 12. We scheduled the trip in the middle of 8 days at Disney. My 11 year old daughter and I booked the "Cousin Lisa's Glades in a Day" trip with Ron's Guide Service and for our purposes it was a great time. Anyone who duck hunts knows how bad this hunt really was. I left both cell and email, and never heard back. Worst of all, I wrote to management afterward, explaining everything. Ultimately, no birds and one shell burned between 3 people. We were still running the outboards at legal shoot time, with no spot picked out and no dekes in the water. Boat problems in the way out to our spot, so we sat and waited for 30 minutes on a boat that wasn't running well, and this was after the guides starting us late. ![]() If you hunt, you know ducks don't like shiny anything, much less a 20' bass boat with no cover! Guides were both nice to talk to, but ours was a bass fishing captain who said he was just "helping out" and the guide in the other boat said he had never personally even shot a duck. The "duck boat" I was in was a shiny red and silver bass boat, with not a scrap of cover in it! Not even palms to lay on the deck. Ultimately, they split our group up, and the hunt I planned to do with my dad and brother-in-law clearly wasn't going to happen. We waited 30 minutes because some other group was late that had nothing to do with our hunt or boat. When we arrived at 5:00am, the guides weren't ready. Water level is up, so we would be hunting from a duck boat with full blind. Booking was for 3 to hunt together on Lake O. I use quotes because I later found out our guide wasn't even a guide with Ron, but that they just sub-contracted our hunt out. We went out with "Ron's Guide Service" on opening day of 2013-2014 duck season. This was the worst hunt I've even hired, and I do 4-6 guided hunts a year (in addition to my own). We are very reluctant to do so but we hope you understand that as a small, family-owned business this is necessary for us to continue operating and sharing our world-class wilderness trophy hunts with sportsmen from all over the country and world.Late review from last season, but felt it was necessary to write. Unfortunately, we are facing unprecedented inflation impacting every angle of our expenses and we have had to increase our prices. Over the years we have done our very best to keep our prices as low as possible and provide outstanding value to every one of our hunters. Our many years of experience gives our hunters an advantage over our competitors. This is our 36 th anniversary of guiding hunters as San Francisco River Outfitters mostly in the Gila Wilderness. We put you on good gentle mountain horses and are guided by our professional and competent guides. We encourage and highly recommend our clients to be in the best shape possible and be prepared to put many miles on horseback in some really tough country. is cutting rifle elk tags in our wilderness unit due to reduced harvest levels of the past three years so it will make it harder to draw rifle tags, but archery tags remain the same. The Gila Wilderness still produces some of the largest 400+ world-class bulls being harvested each year and our hunters also have opportunities at these bulls. However, we still took 7 nice bulls mostly scoring over 300 with a couple 360+ bulls. Due to the effects of the 2012 Whitewater Baldy Fire continue making it harder to get around as well the lingering effects of the 23 year old wolf reestablishment program our success rates have dropped somewhat. San Francisco River Outfitters continue to offer our wilderness pack-in by horseback and pack mule, hunting the rugged and remote Gila Wilderness.
